CAST ASIDE THE CLOUDS tells the story of a forbidden love–that isn’t.

This love story explores the power of love, faith, and resilience. Set in Tehran, the film follows the journey of Layla Khosravi and Dr. Sasan Naderi, as they navigate the complexities of love and faith in a world divided by religious prejudice. Layla and Sasan's paths cross unexpectedly when a brick crashes through the window of her family’s bookstore, injuring Layla. When they meet in the hospital, Sasan is immediately drawn to Layla's beauty, intellect, and the way she thinks. As they spend more time together, their connection deepens, and Sasan is intrigued by Layla's faith, a faith he had little knowledge of before. Just as a misunderstanding threatens to destroy their relationship, adversity strikes when Layla is unjustly arrested, interrogated, and imprisoned. During her incarceration, she finds solace in her faith, and Sasan takes it upon himself to try to free her. As he does so, he connects further with Layla's family and gains knowledge that challenges his family’s assumptions about Layla’s faith. When Layla is finally released from prison, their love faces its greatest test. Together, they navigate the challenges of reconciling their beliefs, uniting their families, and embracing the diversity of their backgrounds all the while relying on the belief that it is love that can bring understanding and unity.
